Eugene
grew up fishing the Great Lakes watershed with his grandfather. Currently
the Assistant Director of the Ohio Sea Grant
College Program and F.T.
Stone Laboratory, Eugene is a fisheries biologist by trade. He holds
his BS in Environmental Education and MS in Fisheries Management from OSU's School of Environment and Natural Resources. He is active with the
American Fisheries Society, served as President of its Ohio Chapter in the
2006 term, and continues to be a member of its Stewardship Committee.
Eugene also holds memberships with the Ohio Fish & Wildlife Management
Association, the Council of Great Lakes Research Managers, and the Society
of Wetland Scientists; is a Trustee and occasional elected officer of The
Ohio Smallmouth Alliance (a citizen conservation group); and is Faculty
Co-Advisor to TerrAqua, the student chapter of the Soil & Water
Conservation Society at OSU. In addition to a passion for fish, fishes,
fishing, and fisheries, he is an avid amateur/semiprofessional classical
musician, a regular member of a couple chamber ensembles, and serves as
Artistic Director of the Columbus Guitar Society’s concert series. …And
his wife and two children like to fish too!
Created in 1895 and located on
Gibraltar Island in Put-in-Bay harbor, Stone Laboratory is the nation's
oldest freshwater biological field station and the Island Campus of The
Ohio State University. The F.T. Stone Laboratory is instrumental in
providing detailed scientific research for the effective management of the
Great Lakes fishery, and of Lake Erie in particular. Join the Fly
