Adventures In Fly Tying! by Joe Cornwall and Jim Stuard In January 2006 I started writing a monthly fly tying column for the Buckeye United Fly Fishers. Most fly fishing clubs feature some sort of "featured fly" on the club websites. What makes this column unique is that, with the invaluable help of Jim Stuard, the producer and editor of these efforts, we've been including video instruction of the fly tying process to make it easier to follow along and learn to tie the pattern! Each month a new pattern is added, and each pattern offers step-by-step images, clear written directions, and a full video of the fly being tied - with narration to help you understand the fine points! Beginning with the June 2006 pattern each monthly installment will also be made available as an RSS feed. We sincerely hope this effort encourages more anglers to try their hand at fly tying, and even more importantly to get out and fish on some of the wonderful local flows to be found in the Midwest. Of course, more folks tying flies and fishing their local creeks means more eyes watching out for the quality of our collective fisheries! What a great result! These video files are not for commercial sale*. They are a volunteer effort to promote the art of fly tying and the sport of fly fishing. If you would like to use any of this material for your non-profit club event or newsletter, please contact the webmaster for permission. Each of the articles is available through the links below.
With the addition of the Light Spruce Streamer we complete our first year of fly tying videos and the first year of providing web-based fly tying instruction for members of the Buckeye United Fly Fishers and interested anglers everywhere. Please help to support the quality of the habitat and the health of the sport for all fish in all waters; join an FFF affiliate club in your area and get involved! You can make a lasting difference!
We hope you've enjoyed the series thus far. There is a lot to look forward to in 2007! Here is a sampling of some of the upcoming patterns: January - Prince Nymph, February - Joe Brooks' Blonde, March - Frank Sawyer's Killer Bug and Grey Goose Nymph. Each month we'll bring you a pattern selected to be effective for the angling you'll encounter during that month and in that season. We'll show you the variations and share some tips and tricks for fishing the fly. We'll even dabble a bit in the fascinating history of the sport of fly fishing. Tie the flies and then take them out on the water with you. With Fly Fish Ohio's Adventures in Fly Tying series you're guaranteed to fill your fly boxes with effective and interesting patterns that'll make you a more effective angler in the Midwest and beyond!

because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts
of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not,
when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
